There are three possible results of each baccarat coup. The player wins, the banker wins or a ‘tie’ is called. A baccarat game can be played between one to three card dealers and one to 14 players. Bets are placed on any hand held by the banker or any of the players.
Baccarat is normally played using 8 card decks. Each card has a number value. The ace is worth one point while cards two-nine are worth their pip value. Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are worth zero. The score is determined by adding all the cards but the score of the hand is only equivalent to a single digit. For instance, if a player has a 9 and a 3, the sum is 12. The score of the hand is 2.
To start the game of baccarat, both the player and the banker are dealt two cards each. If they both have a total score of 8 or 9, the hand with a total of 9 automatically wins. This is called a ‘natural.’ But if neither player has a natural, then the play continues. Players who have an initial total of 0 to 5 can draw a third card but if they have a total of 6 or 7, they stand. The same rule goes to the banker if the player stood put. However, if the player draws a 3rd card, the banker has several options depending on what card the player draws. For instance, if the player was to draw a 4 or 5, the banker can also draw if has a total of 0 to 5 but he stands if he totals 6-7.
